New York, Aug 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A recent study has shown that non-light beer ups the risk of psoriasis in women. It ought to be mentioned that psoriasis is quite a painful skin affliction that affects millions of people worldwide.

Researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston conducted the study. They examined the lifestyle of more than 82,000 women since 1991 who were in the age group of 27 to 44 years. During the course of the study the women furnished the details about their drinking habits – such as the type of alcohol and the amount of alcohol that they imbibed every couple of years. After the conclusion of the study the researchers determined that amongst the study group, more than 1000 women reported that they had psoriasis.

The only saving grace was that light beer was not linked with psoriasis. And red and even white wine were not linked with the disease either. The researchers also concluded that the risk of developing psoriasis was said to be 72% greater in women, who had at least 5 non-light beers in a week compared to all those women who didn’t drink.

“Non-light beer was the only alcoholic beverage that increased the risk for psoriasis, suggesting that certain non-alcoholic components of beer, which are not found in wine or liquor, may play an important role in new-onset psoriasis,” according to the authors of the study.
