Study: Frequent Cell phone usage in pregnancy could lead to behavioral problems in kids
December 8th, 2010 - 8:38 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattCopenhagen, Dec 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Researchers in Denmark have realized that pregnant women who frequently use mobile phones are more likely to give birth to a child with behavioral problems.
The study was released on Tuesday after researchers studied about 100,000 pregnant women in Denmark. The women were tracked between the period of 1996 and 2002.
The researchers revealed that the expectant mothers were made to provide detailed information about their habits, lifestyles and diets. Their mobile phone use was also tracked during the period.
Again when the expectant mothers gave birth, they were again contacted to give further details when their children were seven years old. The researchers this time around inquired about the children’s behavior and general health.
The results were astounding. The researchers found that children who were exposed to mobile phone when they were in the womb had higher chances of developing behavioral disorders than those that were not exposed to it. The research found that they were 50 percent more likely to have behavior problems compared with their counterparts that were not exposed to mobile phones.
The researchers however were cautious to conclude that there is a direct relationship between the usage of mobile phone during and after pregnancy with behavioral difficulties in children.
