drug New York, Jun 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new study has confirmed that using the drug Avandia, which is used to treat diabetes was likely to increase your chances of getting a heart attack. This has led to many people arguing that the advantages of the drug are out weighed by its risks, when people suffering from type 2 Diabetes use it.

According to statements published by Archives of Internal Medicine, using Avandia does not increase your chances of dying from a heart-related disease.

A second study which appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) however stated that there is a higher risk of stroke, heart attack and death for people over 65 years, when Avandia is used instead of Actros, which is a similar drug.

Avandia has been used to treat high blood pressure in type 2 diabetes patients since 1999. Avandia was found to increase the chance of getting heart failure by its users in a 2007 study by an FDA advisory committee, but still it has not been banned from the market. The FDA confirmed in February 2010 that it was still examining documents on Avandia and wasn’t ready to the fate of the drug as yet.
