Striking doctors end 10-day stir in Madhya Pradesh
July 30th, 2009 - 12:00 am ICT by IANSBhopal, July 29 (IANS) The striking junior doctors in Madhya Pradesh will return to work Thursday as they have withdrawn their 10-day stir following the government’s assurance that their demands would be considered “sympathetically”.
A five-member delegation of the striking doctors led by their association president K.K. Prajapati met Health Minister Anoop Mishra in the evening and apprised him of their demands and grievances, an official told IANS Wednesday evening.
“The minister gave a patient hearing to them and assured them that their demands would be looked into sympathetically but only after they return to work,” the official said.
Junior Doctors Association (JDA) president Prajapati and others present agreed to it, he said.
Prajapati later told reporters that the association has withdrawn its agitation following an assurance from the government.
The association asked the doctors of five government medical colleges in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Rewa to return to work from Thursday.
They have been demanding better health facilities and working conditions in the hospitals as per the Medical Council of India (MCI) norms and Rs.12,000 hike in stipend.
