Starbucks To Use Less Salt To Prevent Heart Attacks

saltNew York, Apr 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) With the whole world currently engaged in an effort to be health conscious, Starbucks has also joined hands. The company has declared that it would be engaging in an effort to reduce the amount of salt that it uses in its individual food products. This declaration of Starbucks comes in line with the same declaration made by many of the other companies, who have also decided to reduce the amount of salt that they use in their products. The other companies which have also declared the same are Kraft, Mars Food US, Hain Celestial Group, Subway, Uno Chicago Grill, Au Bon Pain, Goya, White Rose, Unilever, FreshDirect, and Heinz among others.

The initiative has been taken as part of the declaration made by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who is the mayor of New York City. He has launched the National Salt Reduction initiative in order to ensure that a lesser number of residents of the United States fall victim to heart attacks and strokes, and other heart diseases n general, a major cause for which, researchers have found out, is the excessive intake of salt. The initiative affects not only ye food prepared in the restaurants, but also the prepackaged items that are sold in the numerous food chains all over the country.

At present, some items that are sold in Starbucks use as much as 1500mg of salt. The chain’s pledge with the National Salt Reduction Initiative will mean that it would be using a significantly lesser amount of salt in its items like the egg frittata, Gouda and bacon preparations. These are items that are mainly used in the breakfast sandwiches that the chain is famous for.
