South Asians told to go for cancer screening
July 5th, 2010 - 5:57 pm ICT by IANSLondon, July 5 (IANS) South Asians and other ethnic minorities in Britain have been asked to go in for regular cancer screening tests.
The Ethnic Minority Cancer Awareness Week (EMCAW), a voluntary body, is setting up free consultation camps in Nottingham and London July 9 and 10.
Few women from the South Asian communities are either aware of the need for regular cancer tests or actually undertake one, said EMCAW.
Though cases of breast cancer are said to be lower in South Asians compared with the general population, mouth cancer rates are relatively higher. Liver cancer rates are higher too, it said.
