bc-090624-smoking-driverJan 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new study has indicated that children can become vulnerable to second hand smoke while they are in a car. The researchers also think that irrespective of the amount of damage caused to the health of the kids who are subjected to passive smoking in cars the lawmakers should be strict on banning smoking in cars when kids are inside. The article on the topic was written by University of Leeds’s Ray Pawson and it was published by a leading medical journal of Canada. In fact eight provinces in Canada have banned this practice already. Nova Scotia banned it ahead of others and introduced the bill three years back. However, in provinces like Quebec and Alberta it is still permissible. A Canadian Cancer Society associate Rob Cunningham said on the issue “These laws have enormous public support and they have been easily adopted with all party support in provincial legislatures.”

The writer of the article thinks any exposure to smoking that kids get, be it in the cars or at home is detrimental to their health. While some people may argue that immunity level may vary from one child to another and the amount of damage depends on factors like the number of cigarettes smoked, the study claims the habit should be banned at any cost.

The Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services is now mulling a number of plans and proposals on tobacco restrictions. A number of countries are nowadays taking pro active roles in raising awareness among citizens to stop smoking in cars carrying kids.
