Rs.1,170 crore to check maternal, infant mortality
August 19th, 2011 - 7:43 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 19 (IANS) The government has sanctioned around Rs.1,170 crore under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) to check maternal and infant mortality, Lok Sabha was informed Friday.
Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Sudip Bandopadhyaya informed the house that Janani-Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram (JSSK) has been launched in June this year.
“The initiative aims at reducing maternal and infant mortality. The entitlement for free deliveries and free treatment under the scheme is a step in the direction of enhancing access to public health facilities,” he said.
The minister said the scheme has been launched under NRHM where funds are given to the states for drugs, diagnostics, referral transport, blood and also diet.
“The ministry has given Rs.117,036.21 lakh for the year 2011-12 under the scheme,” he added.
