Bethesda, July 9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) American researchers have confirmed the discovery of three antibodies which is said to be capable of removing HIV strains by 91 percent. Moving ahead, the researchers of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease plans to develop a vaccine for AIDS. The online version of “Science” journal was the first one to have reported about the discovery of the antibodies. Dr. Gary Nabel who happens to be the director of the research institute has called the discovery to be a “renaissance” in the field of AIDS research and associated studies.
When asked about the discovery of the antibodies, he told the media that the research team discovered three antibodies out of a total of 25 million cells in side the body of an African-American gay individual. However, the doctor also underlined the fact that the job is half done as one shall have to still figure out how the human body can react to the antibodies.
Gary Nabel and his research team plans to put the antibodies under trial to determine whether they can prevent the infection from HIV virus. If the researchers are successful in their attempt, then these antibodies will be soon injected into the patient’s body in form of a vaccine. It was also said that the techniques employed in this research can also be applied for other mutable diseases like Hepatitis and Influenza which are also considered to be highly infectious. Although Gary Nabel is optimistic about the research output, National Center for HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research Professor Tony Kelleher feels that it’s a stiff challenge for the researchers to overcome as it is an “elegant science” and demands “precise observations”.
