Red Ribbon Symbolizing World AIDS Day 2009 Adorns White House

Dec.01, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The World AIDS day is being observed in the White house as a red ribbon which symbolizes solidarity with people infected with the virus has been adorning a part the White House. A bright red ribbon was placed in the North Portico of the White House with the aim of signifying the deadly disease.
However, this it not the first time, that the distinct red ribbon has been seen placed in the White House. The ribbon had earlier adorned the walls of the White House in 2007 during the administration of former President George W. Bush.
At the same time, the Obama administration have declared on Monday that the 2012 International Aids Conference will be held in Washington, D.C. The conference is scheduled to take place as the ban on the visit of HIV infected people to United States had been repelled earlier. While making the announcement, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also mentioned that the conference would be organized by the International AIDS Society. It was also added that the conference is expected to be a major event as it is likely to be attended by around 30,000 researchers, activist, policy makers among other from across the world.
The World AIDS Day is observed every year on the first day of December and the day is mainly aimed at increasing awareness about the deadly disease which results from the spread of the HIV virus which causes the disease. AIDS is one of the most feared epidemics which has already claimed many lives all across the world with an estimated 25 million people succumbing to the disease between the year 1981 to 2007.
