Punjab to prepare Cancer Atlas
January 12th, 2012 - 10:07 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Chandigarh, Jan 12 (IANS) With reports of growing incidence of cancer in Punjab’s Malwa belt, authorities have decided to prepare a cancer atlas in the state.
The health department said Thursday that the “Atlas of Cancer” will be readied to know the actual incidence of the disease in Punjab and take steps to combat it.
Principal Secretary in charge of health and family welfare, Satish Chandra, said an administrative order for compulsory online registration of cancer patients had been made.
The Malwa belt, particularly Bathinda and Mansa, are worst affected by cancer. Experts say this is mainly due to the excessive use of pesticides for farming and pollution caused by thermal plants.
