Los Angeles, Mar 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Wearing condoms while filming a sex scene might become compulsory for porn stars if a petition to make condom use mandatory is approved by California’s worker safety board. The state regulators heard the testimony on Thursday by a Los Angeles based advocacy group to make it mandatory to use condoms in the adult film industry.

Members of the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health voted unanimously to establish an advisory panel which would look into the matter whether any changes are required in the state law to make wearing condoms compulsory for porn stars. The decision of six-member board to evaluate the proposal of the advocacy group, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, received a warm welcome from the crowd which was present at the venue where the voting took place. The petition to make it mandatory for adult movie stars to wear condoms while shooting sex scenes was filed by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation in the month of December last year with the aim of safeguarding the health of artists of the adult film industry. Micheal Weinstein, the president of the advocacy group has advocated that it is the state’s responsibility to bring regulations in these workplace in the same manner in which it regulates other workplaces.

Meanwhile, board member Guy Prescott later revealed that initially he had intended to vote against the proposal but later decided to change his decision after coming across the adult movie performers as well as other members of the porn industry. The advocacy group emphasizes that if the petition is approved, it could be instrumental in protecting porn stars from getting infected by sexually transmitted diseases.
