New York, Jan 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) US authorities have ordered that more than 226,000 pounds of hamburgers should be recalled because of the possibility that they have spoiled.

The US Agricultural Department gave the order that One Great Burger should recall about 20-pound boxes of its meats after it emerged that bad meat that was returned to the company was repackaged and sent straight back to the market.

The USDA arrived at the conclusion after it launched an investigation into consumer complaints that the ground beef had discoloration and bad odor coming from it. Subsequently, the USDA announced the recall on Monday. About 226,400 pounds have been affected by the recall.

The company sent the repackaged beef to Oregon and California with new production dates that ranged from July to November 2010. The boxes that are affected have establishment number “EST. 34575″ within the USDA mark of inspection with the inscription “ITEM #02044″ labeled on the front.

The USDA has initiated further investigation into the actions of the company. There have been no reported cases of illness or fatality linked to the consumption of the beef.

The recall is a Class II Low Health Risk recall.
