New Delhi, Dec 12 (IANS) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Monday sought a detailed report from the Delhi government on clinics run by quacks and the action taken against them.

The order comes after the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) submitted a list of 28 clinics operating in Burari in north Delhi which were found to be run by quacks or unqualified doctors, an NHRC spokesperson said.

In a statement, the NHRC said it has asked the chief secretary of Delhi government for a detailed report on such clinics in Delhi and action taken against them.

It was informed that necessary action for their closure and registration of FIRs has been initiated, the statement said.

The Chief District Medical Officer to Delhi has referred another six cases of suspected quacks to the Bharatiya Chikitsa Parishad and Board of Homeopathy System of Medicines for necessary action.

“This was disclosed in response to a notice of the commission which was issued on a complaint alleging that a large number of unqualified doctors had been practicing in Sant Nagar, Burari in north Delhi and playing with the lives of the residents,” the statement said.

The Commission also observed that running of clinics by quacks appears to be a serious problem and needs to be checked across Delhi.
