New Version of Female Condoms Released for HIV Prevention
July 30th, 2010 - 1:20 am ICT by Angela Kaye Mason ( 1 comment )July 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A city wide campaign in the HIV infested capital of America, Washington DC has been launched in an effort to convince women to try a new product for the preventions of pregnancy and of the deadly disease-a new and improved female condom.
The original version was said to be somewhat of a dud. The price was almost 4 dollars for one of the items, and the polyurethane material often reminded users of a doctor’s exam glove. There were also complaints that the condom sounded like a crinkling plastic bag during sexual acts. Still others did not like that fact that part of the condom could be seen after insertion.
The newer version, which was approved by the FDA just last year is made of d nitrile that is said to make far less noise. The cost is also cheaper and the item is more similar to a male condom.
One of the highest HIV infection rated cities in the entire country is Washington DC. It was discovered in 2009 that approximately 3 percent of the population over the age of 12 has the disease which is a severe epidemic according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. An epidemic is considered to be severe if over 1 percent of the population is infected.
So these new female condoms are being advertised on buses, websites, and at beauty salons where 500,000 free condoms are being passed out. These new condoms are reported to be just as effective as the male condom in preventing both pregnancy and HIV and can provide even more protection since it covers more area.

This still sounds as though it may not be the best idea in HIV prevention, but goodness knows we need something ….as one quote says…”90 people get swine flu, and people go crazy and wear masks. Millions of people have aids, yet no one wants to wear a condom.”
