Millions of Cans of Similac Baby Formula Recalled Due To Beetles
September 23rd, 2010 - 10:50 pm ICT by Angela Kaye MasonSep 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Abbott Laboratories, the maker of Similac Infant Formula has announced a voluntary recall of cans as well as plastic containers of the powdered formula because it may be contaminated with tiny beetles or their larvae.
In a statement released by the company, it was said that the chances are small, and that there is no immediate health threat, according to the Food and Drug Administration or FDA. Since ingesting the formula could cause babies to have “internal discomfort” and lead them to stop eating, the company initiated the recall on Wednesday.
Abbot is asking that consumers return the cans and plastic containers of the product to them, and not to the stores where it was purchased.Only the powdered version is affected, not the liquid.
