Apr 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Sunday, the viewers of CBS’ “60 Minutes” got to see how in the 21st century stem cell cure for incurable diseases is put as a bait by medical conmen to capture dying patients. Many patients are falling prey to the quack doctors who claim that incurable disease can be cured by putting to use stem cell injections. However medical researchers have proclaimed that such claims are being falsely made and there is no medical research supporting the claim. CBS investigative journalist, Scott Pelley uses hidden camera to reveal the truth of one such quack doctor who charges thousands of dollars with the fake promise of curing incurable diseases like Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Scott Pelley exposed the reality of Lawrence Stowe, a conman who promised that with his prescribed mixture of herbs and vitamins along with the stem cell injections in the spinal cord, the dying patients will be able to leave behind their wheelchair and get into the normal life. Michael Martin, a patient suffering from Lou Gehrig who had made a down payment of whopping $47,000 to Lawrence Stowe, agreed to collaborate with Scott Pelley to unmask the fraud con man. Another patient of Lou Gehrig is put in front of Lawrence Stowe as a potential client.
What is captured then in the hidden camera is the reality unknown to many. The large sum of money that the conman bills for the whole treatment procedure was $125,000 and the claims which he makes of curing the disease appear quite absurd. The episode also showed the views of the researchers and scientists who are working in the field of disease and how such conman are spreading their networking through the internet.
