MCD to evaluate response to swine flu: Mayor
September 24th, 2009 - 8:13 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 24 (IANS) As the H1N1 virus continued to spread, Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain Thursday said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) would evaluate its response to checking the swine flu outbreak in the capital which has claimed nine lives.
“Swine flu, other than causing loss of human lives, should give us reason to sit down and evaluate the efficacy and style of our responses,” Sain said as he addressed a convention organised by Health Essayists and Authors League (HEAL).
He added: “Whether the way we reacted was alright? Or what was the protocol in case of outbreak of a crisis like this, what are the short-term and long-term mechanisms to address the issues and so on, will have to be looked at.”
The mayor said that although the civic agency would evaluate these, he was happy the MCD did good work for “containing the spread of the flu and also the scare”.
He congratulated all officials and staff that the situation never went out of control. “And this was no small task given the magnitude of the city and of course the scare.”
The national capital so far has reported 2,079 swine flu cases and of nearly half are children. Nine people have died of the H1N1 virus in Delhi.
