Marathon motivates people to be active: Delhi Lt. Governor
November 21st, 2010 - 10:21 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 21 (IANS) Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna Sunday said organising marathons promotes a healthy lifestyle and encourages the people to come out and run.
Khanna Sunday flagged off the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon 2010 at Central Civil Services Cultural and Sports Ground opposite Nehru Park.
“The organisers should give medals to everyone who complete the marathon. That will encourage the spirit of running among youngsters. This will also motivate the people to come out and run,” he said.
About 30,000 participants, including 45 of the world’s best top runners and leading national athletes took part in the half-marathon, covering 21 km.
Geoffrey Mutai of Kenya and Ethiopian Aselefech Mergia won the men and women’s events.
The marathon also included a 6 km Great Delhi Run, and separate events for senior citizens and the disabled.
