New York, May 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A man has died of uterine cancer after apparently receiving a cancerous kidney from a donor. Doctors initially were unaware of the cancerous organ, when they were transplanting the cancerous kidney. But when they became aware of the disease, they doubted if the cancer could spread.

Vincent Liew had the transplant in Feb. 25, 2002 after five years of search for a donor. The donor that turned up had uterine cancer but was not aware of it. The donor, Sandra Cabrera had died of a stroke a day earlier, than Liew was suppose to undergo the transplant but the doctor who did the transplant never got the news of the death of the donor until April 17, 2002. And by that time the transplant was already in place.

The doctor testified that he immediately informed Vincent Liew about the problem and offered that they remove the organ. But Liew chose to keep the organ after he was told that the possibility of developing the disease was very less. The doctor said the final decision to keep the organ came from Liew, and he respected his decision.

Liew who was 37 years, and worked for the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York had the organ removed after he experienced back pains. But Liew died within a month after the removal.
