Ankara, Feb 28 (IANS) The patient who received the world’s first quadruple limb transplant in a university hospital in Ankara died Monday.

Sevket Cavdar died “despite all precautions and intensive care treatment”, the Anatolia news agency quoted doctors at the Hacettepe University hospital as saying.

Cavdar received the world’s first quadruple limb transplant over the weekend, but the doctors had to remove his left leg Sunday when his heart and vascular system could not sustain the leg, Xinhua reported.

Earlier Monday, the patient’s other three limbs were also removed due to the same reason.

Meanwhile, a full face transplant patient who was operated by the same team of surgeons, was reported to be in good condition.
