Lawmakers get tough on smoking
January 14th, 2012 - 9:55 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, Jan 14 (IANS) Tougher action is needed to curb smoking in public areas in Shanghai, lawmakers from the Chinese city’s top legislative body say.
Shanghai should increase punishments for smoking in tobacco-free zones and restrict smoking in restaurants and bars, according to the proposal submitted to the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress.
The city should also increase tobacco taxes and increase anti-smoking advertising, the Shanghai Daily quoted a lawyer as saying.
