Latest Egg Recall Issued By Cal-Maine Foods

sswNov 10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The year 2010 is truly turning out to be the year of recall. The latest one is another egg recall that has been issued by distributor Cal-Maine Foods. The latest egg recall covers 8 states of the USA and a total of 288000 eggs are being recalled. The recall has been triggered by the fear of salmonella infection as it has been reported. The infection was traced at the Ohio facility the origin of these eggs. Cal-Maine Foods Inc distributed the affected eggs to retailers and wholesalers. It got the tainted eggs from Croton’s Ohio Fresh Eggs.

Incidentally Mississippi based Cal-Maine is known as the biggest distributor and producer of fresh shell eggs in USA. The eggs covered by the recall were processed at the Arkansas facility of the company. No one has fallen ill so far after eating the eggs. These lots of eggs were produced in October but the company got to know about the possible contamination only a few days back after which it opted fort the recall. The eggs were sold under the following brands: James Farm, Sun Valley, Springfield Grocer, Sunny Meadow and Pippin. The company is fully co operating with the FDA on this recall.

The website of Cal-Maine denotes the expiry date as well as brand names of the potentially contaminated eggs. In August this year a salmonella outbreak triggered an egg recall covering 380 million eggs. That time two Iowa based farms were at root of the recall. The victims of Salmonella can suffer from diarrhea, abdominal cramps coupled with fever. It can also prove to be fatal for the elderly lot and the kids.
