cbsApr 26, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The latest episode of the popular show on CBS called “60 Minutes,” explored the recent tendency of the younger generation, especially those who still go to schools or colleges, of taking self prescribed pills in order to enhance their brain power. The experts on the show tried to look into this tendency, how it developed, and what are the side effects that are bound to catch up after a season of regular intake of the prescription drugs. None of these drugs, like Aderall and Ritalin, are prescribed by the physician as a brain boosting supplement, and are mostly taken by the students themselves, or in worse cases, prescribed by their parents.

The process of enhancing one’s brain power, and hence one’s grades, is called neuroenhancement. Surprisingly enough, the medicines associated with this branch of science were not originally meant to increase one’s efficiency with term papers at all, at least not directly. They were instead meant to increase one’s attention span and such other neural disorders. However, they have now been taken up by the college going community as one of the best and quick ways of increasing efficiency and ensuring better grades.

Thus, it is not surprising when one can see students all over the college campuses in the country popping those so called brain boosting pills, especially before the examinations. As the students who had appeared in the show themselves admitted, it is more the norm than not to pop those pills. However, the students do agree that all that these drugs really do is to increase one’s focus, something which allows the mind to understand things easily.
