Kerala film stars to campaign against liquor
June 7th, 2011 - 9:37 pm ICT by IANSThiruvananthapuram, June 7 (IANS) Kerala Excise Minister K. Babu Tuesday said the government will rope in leading Malayalam film stars to support the anti-liquor campaigns.
Announcing a 100-day programme for his department, Babu told reporters here that already some film producers have come forward to produce short films on the subject.
“These films will be basically promotional in nature to discourage people from being addicted to liquor and drugs,” said Babu.
Eminent social and cultural personalities also will be asked to join the campaign, he added.
He said that film scenes showing use of liquor will be accompanied by an anti-liquor warning.
The new moves come at a time when liquor sales in Kerala for fiscal 2010-11 reached an all-time high of Rs.6,730.30 crore, compared to Rs.5,539.85 crore in 2009-10.
