New York, Mar 31 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Kangaroo Care is a new technique, which can replace incubators for the premature babies. In this technique the caregiver who might be a parent also, imitate the kangaroos and hold the baby against their chest for 24 hours a day. Holding the baby against the chest provides the similar results compared to the process in which the babies are kept in the incubators. The added advantage is that, in this kangaroo care technique, bonding between parent and the child is increased, the babies can also be breastfed and their overall confidence is also enhanced.
This revolutionary technique was developed in 1978. It was developed because the hospitals were too crowded in Columbia, and the infants couldn’t get proper care and treatment. Since the results of the technique have been so good, so now this technique is being used in 25 developing countries, and it recently made its debut in the United States also.
A study has also being carried out on the effects of the Kangaroo care and the results are astonishing. The medical experts say that it is an effective and efficient way to care for the premature babies.
