Japan reports first swine flu death
August 15th, 2009 - 4:55 pm ICT by IANSTokyo, Aug 15 (Xinhua) A 57-year-old man has died of swine flu in southern Japan, becoming the country’s first victim of the viral disease, the health ministry said Saturday.
The victim, a resident of Ginowan in Okinawa Prefecture, was also suffering from heart and kidney ailments, Kyodo News reported citing officials.
Japan reported its first case of swine flu infection in May. Till date, more than 4,000 people have been diagnosed with the influenza A (H1N1) virus, also called swine flu.
