July 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Despite the fact that raw milk suffers a ban in many states of the United States, proponents of the most natural form of milk are known to go great lengths to get it. The Food and Drug Administration has contended that the consumption of the milk without pasteurization or any other kind of process that kills the microbes present in it, poses a major health risk. However, FDA’s notion has been rejected by many people who believe that milk in its natural form consists of many nutrients that are lost once it is pasteurized.
29-year-old Bowie, Maryland resident Liz Reitzig is just one among the large number of people who believes that raw milk forms an important part of diet and refuses to agree with the FDA’s stand that it might have any kind of detrimental health effects. The homemaker insists that she ensures that her son gets to drink a fair amount of raw milk everyday. Since selling of the natural variety of milk is unlawful in Maryland, fetching raw milk is a difficult task as they have to get it by driving to farms in Pennsylvania and paying $5 to $7 per gallon. In the rest of the states where raw milk is banned, people who intend to get a regular supply of raw milk go the extend of buying shares of goats and cows on dairy farms and then collecting their milks from specific points.
Meanwhile, health experts have reiterated that raw milk contains microbes such as E.Coli, salmonella and other bacteria that might led to different kinds of health hazards. This resulted in the FDA ruling that milk that are sold in stores should be pasteurized which kills many microbes.
