iPad can cause insomnia because of its ‘backlit display’
April 29th, 2010 - 11:04 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Apr 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Researchers say that Apple’s iPad can cause insomnia because of its ‘backlit display’. The ULCA report said that the backlit display is the culprit, because the other electronic readers have a comparatively more ‘duller reflection’ which is like a real book. The report also added that continuous exposure to the bright light of the iPad, leads to insomnia and difficulty in getting sleep.
Some of the leading sleep researchers said that the continuous exposure to the light decreases or totally stops the release of melatonin, which is responsible for taking the body towards the sleep mode. And the iPad is to blame, because it has a lot of colors and is held very close to the user’s eyes, and if the user is using the iPad close to his bedtime, then the user is in for a sleepless night.
There are other electronic readers as well, such as Kindle and Nook, but they are designed like regular books, so they don’t disturb the regular sleep pattern of the user. They also have very ambient light, which doesn’t harm the user and doesn’t disturb the normal sleep pattern of the user at all.
