Iowa Based Wright County Egg Recalls 228 Million Eggs After Salmonella Outbreak

eggLos Angeles, Aug 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A Galt, Iowa based egg producing company named Wright County Egg has recalled around 228 million eggs that went out of the company between May 16 and Aug 13. The egg recall was announced by the company on Aug 13 after the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) linked the consumption of the eggs produced by Wright County Egg to the increased number of the salmonella poisoning in more than one state. The company has promised a refund to all the customers who return the egg-in-shell to the stores.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention maintained that the eggs of Wright County Egg were linked with several illnesses that were reported in states like Minnesota, California and Colorado in the past three months. The CDC said that in June and July around 200 cases bearing the strain of salmonella linked to the eggs of Wright County Egg were reported every week at health clinics. It held that the number was four times more than the usual number of such cases. Cases related to salmonella infection was on a rise from May and around 50 people per week reported at the health clinic, however the toll reached a whopping 200 per week in June when the authorities started investigating the case.

Wright County Egg had distributed the disputed eggs all over America. It mentioned in its recall that cartons bearing the plant numbers P-1026, P-1413, P-1946 should be returned. The eggs were packaged under the names of Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Boomsma’s, Ralph’s, Hillandale, Sunshine, Farm Fresh, Trafficanda, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemp. The federal Food and Drug Administration is investigating Wright County Egg.
