Infected mite cause 12 deaths in Himachal
September 15th, 2011 - 12:16 am ICT by IANSShimla, Sep 14 (IANS) Twelve patients suffering from scrub typhus, a disease caused by the bite of an infected mite, have died in Himachal Pradesh this year, an official statement said here Wednesday.
“Twelve patients have died due to scrub typhus since January this year and 309 were found to be positive in the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla,” said the statement, quoting director health services Vinod Pathak.
Forty-four deaths were reported in the state in the past two years due to the disease.
The symptoms of the disease include fever, headache, muscle pain and cough.
