Jan 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a recent study it has been found that the walking speed of every human being is actually a life span determiner. Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh after conducting a study discovered that the more faster a person walks, the more are his chances of surviving long. The study that was conducted on as many as 34,485 adults reveals the benefits of walking faster. The study was conducted on adults of both the sexes whose age group varied from 65 and above.
Old people who have a tendency to walk slow are prone to the risk of a short life than those who still manage to catch up with the speed. The more fast they walk, the more their chances of survival increase. The beneficiary effects of this is not only limited to one particular sex but to both. After discovering the results, researchers are encouraging the elderly citizens to walk briskly which in a way is a boon for them. Dr. Stephanie Studenski of the University of Pittsburgh was the lead author of the study. The news came to light after the study was published in the journal American Medical Association.
In an interview, Dr Stephanie Studenski said that a prediction of the human life can be made with the increased speed in walking. The higher walking speed is directly proportional to increase in life span. Elderly persons must at least try to catch a speed of 2.6 feet per second. The researcher added that a speed of 3 feet per second was the best for elderly persons to increase their survival chances for long.
