Incidence of malaria, dengue drops in Haryana
August 5th, 2010 - 7:06 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Aug 5 (IANS) Haryana has registered a considerable decline in the cases of malaria and other vector borne diseases like dengue and encephalitis in 2010, health officials Thursday said.
“Recently there were heavy floods in various districts of Haryana but still we have registered a major decline in the cases of malaria, dengue and other vector borne diseases,” a state health department spokesman said.
A total of 3,571 cases of malaria have so far been registered in Haryana against 17,252 cases in the corresponding period last year and a substantial decline has also been registered in the cases of dengue and encephalitis, the spokesman said.
As per official records, only seven cases of dengue were registered in 2010 against 125 cases last year. No case of encephalitis has been registered in the state since 2007 when 32 cases of encephalitis were recorded.
“The health department is taking all the preventive steps to curb the spread of these diseases. Emphasis is laid on measures like vector surveillance, effective monitoring, putting larvae eating fish in water bodies and propagation of personal hygiene among the residents of vulnerable areas,” the spokesman added.
