Iceland’s double decker pizza packs a whooping 1780 calories
November 7th, 2011 - 7:58 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Nov 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Health conscious people are sounding the alarm with the launch of Iceland Double Decker’s pizza which has calories almost the total daily recommended quantity for women. Health officials are especially worried because the price of the Double Decker Double Pepperoni Pizza is almost within the reach of everyone.
High calories intake is blamed for obesity which is considered one of the biggest health problems in the world. Every year, it is estimated that several people die from obesity-related conditions. Several campaigns have been launched to create awareness to the dangers that obesity presents to the body.
With the launch of the pizza, several campaigners have added their voice in condemning the enormous amount of calories it contain. The pizza contains 1,780 calories which is almost the total of 2,079 which is considered safe for women for the entire day. The recommended daily calories intake is 2,605 for men.
The pizza is offered for £3.
The National Obesity Forum and Child Growth Foundation of the United Kingdom also criticized the meal. The foundation’s Tam Fry said that, “This is extremely worrying, especially as it’s price is not beyond the reach of a lot of children. I have nothing against pizza per se – if they are well made they can be perfectly healthy and very tasty – but something like this is a great concern.”
