How to cure a hangover?
November 1st, 2009 - 7:04 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York City, Nov 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) There are many cures for hangovers, chief amongst them is lots of water, prickly pear, grapefruit etc. A hangover is a combination of a number of factors like,
Dehydration - the alcohol has forced evaporation of a large vital portion of the body’s water.
Nervous shock - you’re coming off the effects of a mild overdose of a depressant drug, so the nerves are going into a relatively hypersensitive state.
Malnutrition - pumping all that alcohol and liquid through your body has effectively flushed away a significant supply of the body’s storage of vitamins and nutrients, chemicals which would stimulate natural defense systems, but you’re running seriously low on them now.
Here are some tips and tricks to see you through a hangover:
Bananas are great for key vitamins.
1. Lots of Water throughout the night- Water is very essential, as the body is getting de-hydrated by all the effects of the alcohol so water is a must.
2. Have lots of fruits & vegetables - Having raw and steamed vegetables is required because the body has flushed out important vitamins and nutrients, so you need to replace them.
3. Prickly Pear – This is said to be a magic cure for hangovers and its best to take it before the drinking binge itself.
4. Grapefruit – Have lots of it, as it has Vitamin C which is good in chasing away a hangover.
5. Taurine - Organic/Natural energy drinks contain this and will help you immensely in bidding the hangover good-bye.
6. Bananas – They are high in vitamins and highly recommended too.
7. Medicines – You can take them only if you can handle them, medicines which help are aspirin, acetaminophen or ibuprofen, but only if your stomach can handle it.
8. Tomatoes – This is also said to be a good cure, however it is still not sure if it would work for all.
