Health overhaul may usher in free birth control
November 1st, 2010 - 8:23 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattWashington DC, Nov 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Women in the United States may soon experience birth control at zero cost, thanks to the new health care reform that will soon be implemented. Well free is free but it must eventually be paid by someone and it seems American taxpayers will do exactly that.
The panel will meet this month to consider which preventive care in women should be made free. They will then advice the US president to implement it. It seems family planning is highly favored to get the nod and Sen. Barbara Mikulski who is medical doctor believes that birth control should be the choice. The proposal has several supporters especially from the medical field. One such supporter is obstetrician-gynecologist and international family planning expert, Dr. David Grimes.
Dr. Grimes recently revealed, “”There is clear and incontrovertible evidence that family planning saves lives and improves health. Contraception rivals immunization in dollars saved for every dollar invested. Spacing out children allows for optimal pregnancies and optimal child rearing. Contraception is a prototype of preventive medicine”.
It must however be mentioned that the choice of family planning is wrong arguing that pregnancy is not a sickness. The choice is mainly opposed by religious groups particularly the Catholics.
