Haryana gives 300 acres land for AIIMS-like institute
December 30th, 2010 - 10:29 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Dec 30 (IANS) The Haryana government Thursday approved the lease of 300 acres of land in the state’s Jhajjar district for the setting up of a premier medical institute on the lines of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.The formal approval for giving the land on lease in Badsa village of Jhajjar district to the union ministry of health and family welfare was given by the Haryana cabinet which met here.
AIIMS phase-II in Haryana will be an extension of the country’s premier health institute situated in south Delhi. The new project will be located 100 km from the national capital.
“The union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had decided to set up AIIMS phase-II in Haryana and had requested the state government to provide land. The land has been leased out for 99 years at a rate of Re.1 per annum,” a state government spokesman said after the cabinet meeting.
The new institute is less than three km from the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal expressway being constructed in Haryana to enable vehicles bypass Delhi.
The health services and research facilities of the AIIMS phase-II would be extended to patients from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand, besides Haryana, the spokesman added.
