Newcastle, Mar 30 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Massive grasshopper infestation is hampering normal life in the prairies of northeastern Wyoming. They cause a lot of devastation and havoc when they disrupt the traffic on the highways, they eat up the clothes left to dry out in the sun. They also eat up all kinds of edible vegetation on the farms in Wyoming.
And a federal survey of grasshoppers reveals that the problem will escalate in the summers, and the major regions, which would be affected are Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska and Idaho. The farmers are hoping that the grasshopper invasion can be curbed in case there is adverse weather. The population of the grasshoppers can go down, if there is cool and wet weather. The federal and the municipal pest control agencies are also hoping that non-favorable weather will curb the population of the grasshoppers.
The federal and the municipal pest control agencies are also planning to spray aerial insecticide to destroy the grasshopper’s infestation. Since the move will cost millions of dollars, so the agencies are also trying their best to collect the money. “They’re grass eaters. They’ll eat the leaves and leave the stem. And they will eat the stems finally. When they’re really thick, people say they’ll eat T-shirts on a line,” said Tom Wright, who is a rancher near Newcastle in northeast Wyoming.
