potCovina, California, Jan 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The side effects of legalization of medical marijuana is coming to the fore. In a shocking development, two young girls, aged 10 and 11 in the city of Covina in California had to be hospitalized after consuming a marijuana cookie they found in the kitchen. The cookie admittedly belonged to their mother, 33-year-old Veronica Sylvester, who is being currently held under $100,000 bail in California under the charge of endangerment of children. The mother confessed to the legal authorities that she had procured the cookie from a friend for strictly medical purposes, but was unable to produce a medical prescription confirming her statement.

According to reports from the two girls themselves, they had consumed the cookie wittingly, no being aware that it was laced with marijuana. They had apparently come across the cookie in a baggie in the kitchen after they returned from school, and had eaten it, assuming it was what it looked on the outside: a chocolate chip cookie. However, they reported to their mother when they started feeling distinctly ill after eating it, who immediately rushed them to the hospital after she heard they had eaten the cookie.

The two girls, whose names have not been released by the medical or legal authorities for privacy purposes, were take to the hospital, complaining of symptoms like numbness. Their skins also turned into a pallid state, and became cold and clammy to the touch. A primary test showed that they had traces of marijuana in their stomach, and Veronica Sylvester admitted about the cookie. She later confessed to Covina Police Lieutenant Tim Doonin that she had brought the cookie as a medicine, but her confession was overruled when she failed to produce a document prescribing the same.
