July 6, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Recently researches and surveys have revealed that a fructose high diet has a tendency to increase the jeopardy of a high BP level that is also recognized by the term ‘Hypertension’. A paper was presented by the ASN broadly known as the American Society of Nephrology at its 42nd yearly meet that was held in the city of San Diego in sunny California. The factor of hypertension has to be kept under control and this can only be done after keeping a check on processed foods that come with high fructose content. These foods usually include HFCS or high fructose corn syrup and thus taking a break from them would be the best way to fight high blood pressure.
It has been duly observed that over the last two centuries, the fructose consumption rate has become directly proportionate to the increment in the obese rate. The last two decades has been witness to the largest increment in the obese rate caused due to high fructose diets in the USA. Citizens of the US have been devouring 30% of additional fructose in the most recent 20 years; they also are gulping down four times more fructose than what they did in the last 100 years.
A survey was conducted by the National Health and Nutrition Examination from 2003-06 and Diana Jalal the MD of the University of Colorado, Denver Health Sciences Center along with her associates collected that data. The survey was conducted among 4,528 grown-ups who were 18 and above without any earlier history of a hypertension.
A normal BP level is usually lower than 120/80 mmHg and as per the survey the ones who consumed 74 or more grams of fructose every day, stood at the risk of facing very high blood pressures.
