June 29, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): A fresh gel has emerged that ensures the development of cells inside the teeth that possess cavities. This gel could substitute the excruciating process of fillings. The fresh gel or slender film could obliterate the requirement to fill unbearable cavities or to pierce profoundly into the root canal of an impure tooth. Discovery News has mentioned that, instead of the drill, the aforementioned gel, against an unhygienic tooth, has the potential to cure the tooth from within.

Nadia Benkirane-Jessel happens to be a respectable scientist at the Institut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Medicale. She also happens to be the co-author of a fresh dissertation or study. She has remarked that the gel consists of a peptide referred to as MSH. MSH happens to be the abbreviation for melanocyte-stimulating hormone. The scientists had positioned the gel on the teeth of mice, which were loaded with cavity. The scientists subsequently witnessed that the teeth were cured in a month’s time.

Dentists have asserted that cavities are procreated by sweetened munchies, by foodstuffs loaded with acids and by dismal maintenance of oral sanitation. Nonetheless, the current treatment to address cavities continues to be the same. It consists of piercing a tooth, extracting the rotting and subsequently filling in the rotting to avert additional damage. This is a particularly painful process.

Nadia has, however, clarified that the regeneration of a tooth would yield fruitful repercussions in a limited amount of cases only. This regeneration would only cure cavities and not prevent them from emerging everlastingly. Patients would still need to ensure oral sanitation loyally via brushing and flossing.
