Forum on lifestyle diseases, wellbeing SaturdayMay 28th, 2009 - 8:34 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, May 28 (IANS) This Saturday you can be part of an open forum in the national capital on lifestyle diseases and wellbeing that promises to educate you about growing health problems.
The forum is organised by NGO Khushii and Global health MediCity - a lifestyle management group that will throw light on the ‘Lifestyle diseases and wellbeing’ with special focus on childhood obesity, women and heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and lifestyle management.
“The lack of awareness among parents about complications arising from such diseases compounds the problem. This forum will have academics, and professionals who have been involved in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of the diseases,” Naresh Trehan, chairman, Global Health said at the press conference here Thursday.
“Also, professionals from the field of fitness, yoga, meditation, health foods and beauty will also guide people on how to achieve a balance of these factors and enhance their holistic wellbeing,” Trehan said.
The forum is open to everyone and people can interact with doctors, dieticians, beauticians, yoga experts and get their free blood sugar tests, diet counselling, body mass index (BMI), and bone densitometry done.
There would also be free consultations with doctors from cardiac, eye, dental and other departments.
Apollo’s senior consultant cardiologist Ravi R. Kasliwal said: “We are blaming the West for introducing us to fast foods but the problem is that when we eat deep fried stuff we are increasing the risk of heart attack. Sedentary lifestyle and not including fruits and green vegetables is the culprit of all problems.”
“Today’s need is to work jointly towards improving the lifestyle habits of individuals by organising the interacting platform to discuss the ways to lead the healthy life and this forum does the same,” Kasliwal said.
The activities will begin from 10 a.m. and last till 6:30 p.m. and will take place at Vasant Square Mall in Vasant Kunj.
