Female Viagra Results Fail To Impress, Says FDA

Female ViagraWashington, June 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new drug which had been hyped as the very first female viagra, has fallen short of its effectiveness in boosting sexual drive in females, officials of the Food and Drug Administration have revealed.

It has come to light that the drug flibanserin which has been marketed by the German pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheimas has failed to produce conclusive results.

A report that was published on the official online portal of the Food and Drug Administration pointed out that the pink pill, flibanserin was not successful in yielding compelling results when it was considered in comparison with a placebo.

At the same time, it has been stated that the drug was able to result in only trivial improvement in the treatment of hypoactive sexual desire disorder or HSDD. Flibanserin which was initially tested as an anti-depressant, is known to reduce the level of serotonin and few other chemicals of the brain but is still remains unclear that how the drug plays a role in accentuating the sex drive of women.

In the review, the FDA further states that the division intended to examine whether the pink pill is able to increase the sexual desire irrespective of the occurrence of a sexual encounter. However, the results indicated that it failed to show any significant increase in sexual drive in females.

Meanwhile, on Friday, a committee comprising of health experts would be voting about the effectiveness as well as the safety of the pink pills when administered to women.

According to researchers, low sex drive is the most common sexual problem among females between the age group of 30-60.
