Washington DC, Jun 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The FDA has found that the new morning after pill is safe. The main difference between this pill and the other pills in the market is that, this morning after pill works to prevent unwanted pregnancies, even five days after unprotected sexual intercourse. The traditional morning after pills work best within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse, which is just 3 days.
So in many ways, the new pill ‘ellaOne’ has quite an upper hand over the other pills. Apart from the longer time duration the US health regulatory staff also said that, it apparently has no unexpected side effects too.
“Emergency contraception is a woman’s last chance to prevent an unintended pregnancy. And half of all pregnancies in the U.S. are unintended. Women sometimes say, ‘Oh, I couldn’t become pregnant from that.’ They deny the possibility and don’t really accept the reality of it,” according to Paul Fine, who is the medical director of Planned Parenthood of Houston.
The new pill is called the ‘ellaOne’ and the French pharmaceutical company ‘HRA Pharma’ is making it. Soon the FDA would take a stand on whether to allow this pill in the US markets or not, with the help of some outside medical experts. In case the pill gets the green signal then the company – Watson Pharmaceutical would soon be selling and marketing the drug in the United States.
