Expansive health insurance announced for Goan families
December 17th, 2010 - 7:01 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, Dec 17 (IANS) Chief Minister Digambar Kamat here Friday announced a universal health scheme under which every family in Goa will be covered for first and secondary health aid up to Rs.60,000. Kamat said that every family in the state with five members or less, would be covered under the insurance cover scheme.
“We will be inviting bids from insurance companies for providing the cover. The tender will be floated soon,” Kamat said.
The chief minister was, however, unable to spell out the approximate number of families in Goa’s 14 lakh population which would be covered under the scheme, nor was he able to explain the financial implication of the insurance cover scheme.
“Both government and some private hospitals will be a part of this scheme which has been cleared by the cabinet Friday,” Kamat said.
Kamat said that those wanting to avail the scheme will be given a card on the basis of which the benefits will be availed.
“It covers cost of primary and secondary healthcare up to Rs.60,000. The directorate of health will be implementing the scheme and there is no income ceiling to avail this facility unlike mediclaim,” Kamat said.
