Eight more dengue cases in Delhi
August 9th, 2010 - 8:21 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 9 (IANS) Delhi reported eight new cases of dengue Monday, taking the total number of people affected by the mosquito-borne disease in the city to 121 so far, an official said.
“Eight more people have tested positive for dengue in Delhi today (Monday) but no deaths were reported,” Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s chief medical officer N.K. Yadav told IANS.
Commenting on the rise in dengue cases, V.K. Monga, chairman, health committee, MCD, said: “There is an alarming increase in dengue cases this year, as the majority of breeding was found in Commonwealth Games construction sites. About 121 cases of dengue have been recorded till today (Monday) compared to just ten cases last year.”
“The entire city is dug up and it has become a conducive breeding ground for mosquitoes,” he added.
One death due to dengue has been reported in Delhi this year.
