Washington DC, April 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) US government officials have warned that a drug-resistant salmonella may be involved in a new outbreak.

Officials announced that several people have been sickened by the bacteria in at least ten states in the country. The source of the bacteria is a raw frozen turkey which is produced and sold by Jennie-O Turkey Store in Willmar, Minn. The outbreak has prompted the company to recall about 55,000 pounds of its products from all over the United States.

So far the bacteria have proved resistant to ampicillin, amoxicillin/clavulanate, cephalothin, tetracycline and other antibiotics. CDC has announced that outbreaks have been reported in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Washington and Wisconsin.

Jennie-O Turkey has listed the affected products as those marked with the use-by date of Dec. 23, 2011. All the affected packages also have Lot codes of 32710 to 32780 with the establishment number P-7760 stamped in the USDA mark.
