Dengue review meeting’s focus on coordination: Azad
September 3rd, 2010 - 7:02 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS) A meeting Friday to review the increasing dengue cases in the capital, which hosts Commonwealth Games Oct 3-14, focused on bringing coordination between various agencies to control the outbreak, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said.
Delhi has so far 1,155 dengue patients.
The review meeting here was attended, among others, by Health Secretary Sujatha Rao, Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia, Mayor Prithviraj Sahni, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner K.S. Mehra, and officials from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and the Ram Manohar Lohia and Safdarjung hospitals.
Azad told reporters that the meeting was for bringing coordination between the various agencies.
An official said that a five-point agenda has been prepared to control the outbreak.
The health minister said a massive cleaning drive will be launched by MCD and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) across the capital, adding that there will be 33 centres, including private hospitals, for diagnosing the disease.
Also, he said the focus is on roping in the services of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) by providing them chemicals for use in their respective areas.
Besides, the MCD has been asked to set up a ward-level force for taking preventive measures in the capital to check the spread of the vector-borne disease.
