Demystifying the diet jungle (To go with: Fall in love with food, says nutritionist-author)

* Camel Diet: High on liquids, this diet, which uses water to kill hunger, can cause malnutrition

* Monkey diet: This jumps from fad to fad - from grapefruit diet, apple cider vinegar diet and the acai berry diet. Around since 1930s, it stresses on the benefit of one food and is often inadequate.

* Cow Diet: This is a monotonous diet of the same set of foods without variety. The cabbage soup diet is an example - the cabbage and the soup does not change. Such diets are restrictive, poor in nutrients and emotionally stressful.

* Ostrich Diet: This targets fats but doesn’t target overall health. The Atkins’ Diet is an example. This no-carbohydrate diet allows one to eat ice-cream, cheese and red meat. It is associated with long-term disorders.

* Cheetah Diet: This promises magical time-frames. It could mean regular purging or vomiting food and over-exercise. They go nowhere - just as someone who tries to get into shape with electrical muscle stimulation or a vibrating machine.
