Delhi government for proper healthcare in observation homes
February 15th, 2010 - 9:24 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 15 (IANS) The Delhi government Monday recommended a slew of measures to improve healthcare in observation homes after 20 mentally challenged inmates died over the past two months at one such state-run facility recently.
Delhi Finance Minister A.K. Walia and Social Welfare Minister Mangat Ram Singhal Monday visited Asha Kiran Home at Rohini, where 20 mentally challenged inmates have died over the past two months.
“It was observed that around 730 inmates have been put up in the home against the capacity of 350. It has poor sanitation and health facilities,” Singhal said after his visit.
The ministers recommended deploying more nurses, sweepers and helpers in the observation home besides keeping ambulances for emergency.
